Abstract:

Offshore single blade installation is a popular method for installing large offshore wind turbines. During an offshore operation, a jackup vessel is often used, and each blade is individually lifted by a crane and mated with the hub. This presentation will discuss the challenges of such an installation method including the environmental conditions, dynamic responses of the lifting and support structures, and human errors.  In addition, several measures are introduced for facilitating the single blade installation.  These measures include active tugger line control, tuned mass damper and specialized tools. The effects of these advanced measures are shown through numerical examples.
